Fourth Airship Daedalus Novel Coming May 6th!

April 11th, 2019

The AEGISverse is about to grow by another volume, as Airship Daedalus: Legend of the Savage Isle arrives on May 6th, 2019. The fourth book in the retro pulp sci-fi series—which many fans are including in the “dieselpunk″ or “decopunk″ categories—follows the continuing adventures of Dorothy “Doc″ Starr and “Captain Stratosphere″ Jack McGraw as they lead a diverse international crew of heroes for the AEGIS foundation against the mystical dark army of the Silver Star Society.

May, 1927. Barely recovered from a hair-raising adventure over Europe, across the Mediterranean, and into Egypt, the crew of the airship Daedalus is sent on the trail of a pair of super-zeppelins carrying an invasion force, a valuable piece of stolen AEGIS technology, and their captured mechanic.

Intervening in a tribal uprising in Kenya, Jack and Doc find his replacement in the form of a young Kikuyu woman and technical prodigy.

Fighting their way through the markets of Bombay to the streets of Bangkok, braving storms and enemy attacks at every step, Jack, Doc, and the rest of the Daedalus crew must voyage to the far side of the world, where a mysterious island and its inhabitants are in dire peril. Along the way, they must learn to trust new allies and set aside old notions of empire.

The Airship Daedalus series of novels is based on the comic strip by Todd Downing and Brian Beardsley, part of a transmedia property which includes retro-style radio dramas, a tabletop roleplaying game, novels, and a short story anthology.

“Itʹs my most epic tale in this setting so far,″ says author Todd Downing, adding, “I pretty much threw the kitchen sink in there. High-flying action, jungle adventure…a little Lovecraftian horror, some weird science and some very Nazi-esque bad guys getting punched. Even some story elements from classic Wells and Verne tales, which vintage pulp fans should enjoy.″

The setting is known for its inclusive cast of characters and credo of filtering out the more toxic aspects of classic pulp while maintaining the fun and adventure. Fans have raved: “Vast world, themes, humanity and spirit!″; “An amazing adventure set in an alternate universe that reads like a pulp fiction version of a Jules Verne story.″; “The whole Airship Daedalus series combines classic swashbuckling adventure with characters you come to know in the best tradition of serial storytelling.″

Legend of the Savage Isle follows A Shield Against the Darkness, Assassins of the Lost Kingdom (by E.J. Blaine), and The Golden City in the Airship Daedalus canon. In 2018, a short fiction anthology called AEGIS Tales introduced readers to the wider “street-level″ setting, including ghost hunters, masked vigilantes, secret agents and a lost valley of dinosaurs.

Airship Daedalus: Legend of the Savage Isle is currently available for preorder on Amazon, and will be available in print and ebook formats on May 6th from Amazon, iBooks, Kobo, DriveThruFiction and IndieBound.
